Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the joints. It occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue in the joints, leading to swelling, stiffness, and pain. Rheumatoid arthritis can also affect other organs in the body, including the skin, eyes, lungs, and blood vessels. It typically affects people in their middle-aged years and is more common in women than in men.

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronic disorders that cause inflammation of the digestive tract. The two most common types of IBD are ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Both conditions can cause a range of symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. IBD is a lifelong condition that requires ongoing medical and sometimes surgical treatment to manage symptoms and prevent long-term complications.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)

Hidradenitis suppurative (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes painful lumps that are often found in particular areas of the body, such as the underarms or in the groin and inner thigh, but can also happen on the chest, back, or butt. It is often mistaken for infected follicles, abscesses, boils, or cysts. The psychological burden of often-oozing HS lesions in skin folds is significant, impacting patients’ quality of life. Treatments involve oral, systemic (injections) or surgical measures (e.g., removing infected tissue). Combination of treatments to manage HS is burdensome and provides limited relief. None of the currently available treatments provides a cure.
